About Carpocoris mediterraneus Tamanini, 1958
Carpocoris mediterraneus (scientific name: Carpocoris mediterraneus Tamanini, 1958) typically reaches a body length of 11–13 millimetres, which equals 0.43–0.51 inches. It has a shield-shaped body with very thick elytrae. The surface of its body is bright yellow or orange, marked with four short longitudinal black stripes on the pronotum and five dark spots on the scutellum. Its antennae have 5 segments, and its legs are yellowish or orange. This species closely resembles and is often confused with Carpocoris pudicus, Carpocoris purpureipennis, and Carpocoris fuscispinus. For the subspecies Carpocoris mediterraneus atlanticus, the humeral angles of the pronotum are sharp and protruding, the base of the scutellum and connexivum frequently have contrasting black spots, and the apex of the scutellum is exceptionally truncated. This species is widespread across the Mediterranean region, including Corsica, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Sardinia, and Sicily.
