About Carphephorus bellidifolius (Michx.) Torr. & A.Gray

Carphephorus bellidifolius, commonly known as the sandy-woods chaffhead, is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, native to North America. It is endemic to the southeastern United States, where it occurs in the states of Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. This species is an herb that grows up to 60 cm (24 inches) tall, and is mostly hairless. It bears an open, loose inflorescence holding many small purplish flower heads; these heads contain only disc florets, and do not produce ray florets.
