About Carex unilateralis Mack.
Carex unilateralis Mack. is a low-growing, perennial, tussock-forming rhizomatous plant that produces a compact flower head. Its bracts reach 35–75 cm in height, and are longer than its leaves. The leaves of this species are 2–3 mm wide. The inflorescence typically grows angled to one side of the culm, a feature that makes this species relatively easy to identify. This sedge is common across southwestern Canada and the western United States. It grows preferentially in lowland, damp habitats including bogs, marshes, and wetlands.
