Carex triquetra Boott is a species belonging to the genus Carex, commonly known as the sedges. According to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, Carex is one of the largest genera of flowering plants, with over 2000 species. In May 2015, the Global Carex Group proposed a broader definition of the genus Carex. This expanded circumscription added all species that were previously classified in four other genera: Cymophyllus, which contains 1 species; Kobresia, which contains around 60 species; Schoenoxiphium, which contains around 15 species; and Uncinia, which contains around 70 species. As of May 2024, all currently recognized species in the genus Carex, including hybrid species, are organized alphabetically from A to Z in the source this entry is taken from.
