About Carex sociata Boott

The scientific name of this species is Carex sociata Boott. Carex, the sedge genus, is one of the largest genera of flowering plants. According to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, the genus contains over 2000 species. In May 2015, the Global Carex Group proposed a broader circumscription of the genus Carex. This new classification added all species that were formerly classified in four other genera: Cymophyllus (1 species), Kobresia (approximately 60 species), Schoenoxiphium (approximately 15 species) and Uncinia (approximately 70 species). As of May 2024, all currently recognized species in the genus Carex, including hybrid species, are listed alphabetically from A to Z.
