About Carex praticola Rydb.

Carex praticola Rydb. is a species of sedge, commonly known as meadow sedge. It is native to most of northern North America, covering most of Canada and the northernmost United States. It can grow in a wide range of habitat types, from wet to dry environments, including moist mountain meadows and woodlands. This sedge forms dense clumps of stems, which reach a maximum height close to one meter. Its inflorescence is an erect or nodding cluster of several flower spikes, with colors ranging from light greenish or brown to white. The fruit is enclosed by a perigynium that is white to cream, sometimes with a coppery center, and is translucent.
