About Carex novae-angliae Schwein.
Carex novae-angliae Schwein. grows in loose tufts, and produces ascending to erect rhizomes. These slender, reddish-brown rhizomes measure 1โ20 mm (0.039โ0.787 in) in diameter. The plant's culms are 5โ40 cm (2.0โ15.7 in) long and slightly rough to the touch. Its inflorescences hold both staminate and proximate spikes, and the peduncles of staminate spikes are 1.9โ5.9 mm (0.075โ0.232 in) long. This species is most commonly found in mesic deciduous forests, and occurs less often in mixed evergreen-deciduous forests. It is native to North America, and is more abundant in Canada and the northeastern United States than in the American Midwest or South.
