Carex leporina L. is a species of sedge. It is called oval sedge in the British Isles, and eggbract sedge in North America. It is native to Eurasia, as well as eastern and western North America. In its native range, it grows in seasonally wet habitat types, including meadows and fields. This sedge produces many thin stems and narrow leaves. Its inflorescence is an open cluster made up of several flower spikes. The pistillate flower of this sedge has a reddish or brownish bract with a gold center and white tip.
