About Carex hostiana DC.
Carex hostiana DC. is a rhizomatous perennial sedge with a tufted growth habit, and it can be either evergreen or deciduous. It produces straight, triangular cross-sectioned culms that grow between 25 and 60 cm (9.8 to 23.6 inches) long. Linear leaves borne on flowering stems reach up to 14 cm (5.5 inches) in length, and measure between 1.5 and 4.5 mm (0.059 to 0.177 inches) wide. Inflorescences form as spikes 5 to 70 mm (0.20 to 2.76 inches) long at the tip of each culm.
In Europe, the species' range extends from Spain in the west to Ukraine in the east, and from Italy and Greece in the south northward to Finland, Norway, and Sweden. In the Americas, it is found in the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Newfoundland.
