About Carex flava L.

Carex flava L., commonly called hedgehog grass or large yellow sedge, is a widespread species of sedge in the genus Carex, family Cyperaceae. It is native to the northern United States, Canada, Iceland, Europe, the Atlas Mountains in Africa, the Transcaucasus area, and parts of Siberia. This species gives its name to the Carex flava species complex. In terms of distribution and habitat, Carex flava favors calcareous mires and damp woodland environments. It grows best on peaty soil that is flushed by calcareous water from nearby limestone outcrops.
