About Carex davalliana Sm.

Carex davalliana Sm., commonly called Davall's sedge, is a species of sedge that grows in inland wetlands throughout continental Europe. It is a dioecious species, meaning individual plants produce only male or only female flowers. Within the British Isles, this species went extinct in 1852 and has not reestablished a population there. It was ever only recorded at a single site in the British Isles: a calcareous mire located near Bath, Somerset. The species went extinct in this region after the site's land was drained to build houses.
