About Carex chordorrhiza L.f.
Carex chordorrhiza, scientifically named Carex chordorrhiza L.f., has culms that measure 5โ32 cm (2โ13 in) in length when young, and these culms start out growing erect. As the stems mature, they become prostrate, and fully mature prostrate stems can grow up to 120 cm (47 in) long. Its inflorescences are 5โ16 mm (0.20โ0.63 in) long and 4โ12 mm (0.16โ0.47 in) wide. Carex chordorrhiza has a circumpolar distribution across boreal and subarctic regions. It occurs in Iceland, Scandinavia, northern Germany, Poland, and northern Russia, as well as in North America from Alaska to Greenland. It grows more patchily further south, reaching as far south as Indiana in North America and the Pyrenees in Europe. Within the British Isles, this species is only found at two sites in the Scottish Highlands: the head of Loch Naver near Altnaharra, West Sutherland, and the Insh Marshes in Easterness & Nairns.
