About Carex atrata L.

Carex atrata L., commonly known as black alpine sedge, is a widespread species of flowering plant in the sedge genus Carex. It is native to Greenland, Iceland, most of Europe, and scattered sites across temperate Asia. Its native range in temperate Asia includes Anatolia, Siberia, and the Himalaya, and extends as far east as Taiwan and Japan. The recorded chromosome number for this species is 2n=52. Some variants with different chromosome counts have been reported; for example, Greenland individuals of this species have been recorded with 2n=54.
