About Cardisoma carnifex (Herbst, 1796)

Cardisoma carnifex is a species of terrestrial crab. It lives in coastal regions spanning from the east coast of Africa and the Red Sea, across the Indo-Pacific, to the Line Islands and the Tuamotu Archipelago. Its known range includes parts of northern Australia and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. This is an omnivorous species that eats a wide range of both plant and animal materials. It primarily feeds on fallen leaves, fruits, seeds, and other types of organic detritus. It may occasionally prey on insects or small animals, which demonstrates its opportunistic feeding behavior.
