About Capsus ater (Linnaeus, 1758)

Capsus ater, commonly called the black plant bug, is a species of true bug belonging to the Miridae family. It likely originated in North America, and can now be found in Europe, across the entire Palearctic region extending to Siberia, as well as in its native range of North America. This species occupies habitats ranging from dry to moderately moist, and from fully open to partially shaded. In the Alps, it occurs at elevations over 2000 meters above sea level. Black plant bugs live on a variety of grasses from the Poaceae family, and do not show any clear preference for specific grass species or genera.
