About Capparis sepiaria L.

Capparis sepiaria L. is a prickly evergreen shrub that reaches 3 to 5 meters in height. It produces white flowers during its growing season; flowering begins in February, and fruits start to develop in April. This species has a pantropical distribution, and has been recorded in Africa, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, India, and Australia. In India, it has been observed in Kolhapur, Chikmagalur, Dharwad, Mysore, Shimoga, Hyderabad, and various regions of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. This includes the Nilgiri Mountains in the Western Ghats, where local communities such as the Irulas know it for multiple traditional medicinal uses.
