About Canthigaster solandri (Richardson, 1845)

Canthigaster solandri (Richardson, 1845), commonly called the spotted sharpnose puffer, is a ray-finned fish species belonging to the pufferfish family. This species reaches a maximum total length of 11.5 centimeters (4.5 inches). It is found in tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region, ranging from East Africa to the Line Islands and the Tuamotus, north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia and Tonga, and also occurs in the Hawaiian Islands. Like other members of the pufferfish family Tetraodontidae, Canthigaster solandri can rapidly inflate itself like a water balloon as a defense against predators. The skin of this species is known to be poisonous.
