Cantharis obscura Linnaeus, 1758 reaches a body length of 9–13 millimetres (0.35–0.51 inches). This species has black elytra and a black head. Its black pronotum has reddish or orange-colored lateral margins. Adult Cantharis obscura feed on small insects including aphids, and also feed on pollen from fruit trees. This species occurs across most of Europe and the eastern Palearctic realm. It inhabits bushes, forest edges, and meadows.
