About Cantharellus amethysteus (Quél.) Sacc.

Cantharellus amethysteus (Quél.) Sacc. is an edible chanterelle species. Its flesh is white when young, turning yellow as it ages. The cap measures 5–10 cm across; it is flat-topped when young, and develops a depression as it matures. It has a downy texture and irregular, wavy edges. The stem is 3–4 cm long, tapers towards the base, and is often flattened or twisted. Its false gills (veins/ridges) are thick and decurrent, and paler in color than the cap. This species has a mild taste, and a mild, pleasant scent with a faint apricot aroma. Its spore print ranges from white to pale yellow, sometimes with a pink tinge. Its spores are cylindrical to elongated ellipsoid, smooth, and non-amyloid, measuring 8–10 x 5.5–6 μm.
