About Candolleomyces candolleanus (Fr.) D.Wächt. & A.Melzer
The cap of Candolleomyces candolleanus is tan when young, fading to whitish as it grows, and reaches 2–8 cm (1–3 in) in diameter. Caps start out conical, later become rounded, and finally develop upturned margins when mature. An defining feature of this species is an irregular, radially asymmetrical cap margin. Veil fragments may remain on the cap edge and center. The white stalk grows 4–10 cm (1.5–4 in) tall and 3–7 mm wide. This fungus produces a purple-brown spore print; its individual spores are smooth, elliptical, and measure 6.5–8 by 4–5 μm. It is commonly found growing in small groups around stumps and tree roots on lawns and pastures in North America and Europe. A report of this species from Iraq was published in 2014.
