About Cancer productus Randall, 1840

Cancer productus Randall, 1840 has broad, somewhat rounded carapace teeth, and the teeth located between its eyes are nearly equal in size and shape. The carapace is widest at the rearmost tooth, and can reach up to 20.0 cm across. This species has large pincers with distinctive black tips, and has no serrations or projections on the ventral side of its claws. Adult individuals have an even brick-red coloration across their entire body. Juveniles have varied coloration: they are often white, sometimes have red spots, or may display zebra stripes. The geographic range of Cancer productus extends from Kodiak Island, Alaska to Isla San Martine, Baja California. It lives in waters from the mid-intertidal zone down to a depth of 79 m.
