About Campylostachys cernua (L.fil.) Kunth
Campylostachys is a genus of flowering plants in the family Stilbaceae, first formally described as a genus in 1832. Only one species in this genus is currently recognized as valid: Campylostachys cernua, which is endemic to the Cape Province region of South Africa. Species formerly placed in Campylostachys have been moved to other genera. Campylostachys abbreviata E.Mey. 1838, a name that is not the same as the 1843 name of the same combination, is now a synonym of Euthystachys abbreviata (E.Mey.) A.DC. Campylostachys phylicoides Sond. is now a synonym of Kogelbergia phylicoides (A.DC.) Rourke. In 1843, Ernst Meyer used the genus name Campylostachys a second time to describe plants in the family Cyperaceae, creating an illegitimate homonym. Both this reused genus name and the species name Meyer published under it are invalid and illegitimate, as they were published without accompanying descriptions. The illegitimate Campylostachys E.Mey. 1843 is now treated as a synonym of Fimbristylis Vahl 1805. The combination Campylostachys abbreviata E.Mey. 1843, which is not the same as the 1838 name of the same combination, is now a synonym of Fimbristylis ferruginea (L.) Vahl.
