Camissoniopsis lewisii is an annual herb. It produces a hairy stem that can reach up to about half a meter in length. The stem may be erect and unbranched, or spreading along the ground and branching. Its leaves are arranged in a basal rosette, are several centimeters long, and also grow along the stem. A nodding inflorescence bears flowers with yellow petals that are a few millimeters long, and each petal has one or two red spots at its base. The fruit of this plant is coiled, and measures one to two centimeters long.
