About Camellia crapnelliana Tutcher

Camellia crapnelliana Tutcher is a small tree that reaches 5โ€“7 meters (16โ€“23 feet) in height. It produces thickly leathery leaves, and its flowers grow singly at the terminals of branches. This species is distributed in Hong Kong, specifically on Mount Parker and at Mau Ping on the peak of Ma On Shan. It also grows across southern and southeastern China in the provinces of Guangxi, Fujian, and Zhejiang. The oil from its seeds is edible. This camellia was first introduced to Japan in 1968. Grafting it onto rootstock of Camellia japonica or Camellia sasanqua is difficult, so only a small number of plants have been cultivated in Japan.
