Cambarus carinirostris Hay, 1914 is a moderately sized crayfish. Reported mean total carapace length for this species is 29.1 millimetres (1.15 in). Dorsally, its body is brown or beige, and the abdominal terga have crimson borders. Its ventral surfaces and pereiopods are cream or white. Its chelae are olive or brown, with propodal tubercles that are cream or yellow. This species is native to the Monongahela, Ohio, and Allegheny River systems, and its distribution spans from New York to eastern Ohio and central West Virginia. Within this range, Cambarus carinirostris primarily lives in headwater streams, where it occupies open spaces under benthic debris like boulders. It is also a prolific secondary burrower, and commonly builds shallow burrows in soft substrate on stream banks.
