It is native to the central United States, specifically the states of Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, and Indiana. This bulbous perennial grows up to 75 cm (30 inches) tall, and it produces white, blue, purple, or violet flowers that bloom in April and May.
