About Calyptridium monandrum Nutt.
Calyptridium monandrum Nutt. is a fleshy, flat annual herb that produces short stems. These stems either extend along the ground, or spread upright from a small taproot. Thick, spoon-shaped leaves form a basal rosette at the base of the stem, and can reach up to around 5 centimeters in length. Smaller leaves grow along the length of the stems. Small inflorescences sprout from the stem, and each holds many flowers. Every flower has fleshy, triangular sepals, along with three pink or red petals that are only a few millimeters long. The fruit this plant produces is a translucent, oblong capsule up to six millimeters long, which contains several shiny, black seeds.
