About Caltoris kumara (Moore, 1878)

This description covers the female of Caltoris kumara (Moore, 1878). On the upperside, the body is dark olive brown. The forewing has a transverse discal series of seven yellowish, semi-diaphanous spots that extend from before the apex, and the cilia are pale brownish-yellow. On the underside, the body is deep ochreous-brown. The forewing has the same markings as the upperside, with the lowest spot being yellow. The hindwing has a single indistinct yellow discal spot between the two lower median branches. The palpi and body are brown, and the tarsi are ochreous. This species occurs in India and Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon). Males differ from females on both the upperside and underside by the absence of the first upper and lower discal spots. A range extension of this species to the western Himalaya was recorded in 2018.
