About Calosoma calidum (Fabricius, 1775)

Calosoma calidum, commonly known as the fiery hunter, is a species of ground beetle that belongs to the subfamily Carabinae. This species was first formally described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1775. Its distribution ranges across all of Canada, as well as the northern and eastern regions of the United States. Adult individuals of this beetle measure between approximately 19 millimeters and 27 millimeters in length. Their bodies are black, and their hardened forewings (elytra) have rows of red or gold spots or pits. Calosoma calidum typically inhabits fields and disturbed habitats.
