About Caloria indica (Bergh, 1896)

Caloria indica (Bergh, 1896) has a body length ranging between 25 millimeters and 50 millimeters. Its entire body is covered in cerata, which the species can detach to distract or harm predators. This species was originally described based on specimens from Ambon Island, Indonesia. It naturally occurs in the Indo-West Pacific, ranging from East Africa to Hawaii. It is also an invasive species in the Mediterranean Sea’s Israeli coast, first recorded there in the late 1980s, with an additional recorded sighting in 2016.
