Caloptilia violacella is a species of moth that belongs to the family Gracillariidae. In the United States, this species has been recorded from the states of Illinois, Missouri, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, New York, and Texas. Adults of Caloptilia violacella have a wingspan of approximately 10 millimeters. The larvae of this moth feed on Cajanus cajan, Desmodium species (including Desmodium rotundifolium), and Meibomia dillenii. Larvae create mines within the leaves of their host plants as they feed.
