About Caloptilia fraxinella (Ely, 1915)

Caloptilia fraxinella, commonly called the ash leaf cone roller moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Gracillariidae. This species has been recorded in Canada, specifically in the provinces of Québec, Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan, and in the United States, where it occurs in Michigan, Vermont, Ohio, Connecticut, New York, and Maine. It is regarded as a significant pest of horticultural ash trees. The larvae of Caloptilia fraxinella feed on plant species from the genera Fraxinus and Ligustrum. Known Fraxinus host species include Fraxinus americana, Fraxinus mandshurica, Fraxinus nigra, and Fraxinus pennsylvanica. Larvae mine the leaves of their host plants to feed.
