About Calopteryx syriaca Rambur, 1842

Calopteryx syriaca, commonly known as the Syrian demoiselle, is a damselfly species belonging to the family Calopterygidae. It was formally described by Rambur in 1842. This species is native to the southern Levant, and has been recorded in Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria. It is sometimes treated as a subspecies of the banded demoiselle, Calopteryx splendens. The Syrian demoiselle lives in habitats along rivers, including the Orontes, Litani, and Jordan Rivers. Its populations have declined because of habitat loss in the region's river systems.
