This species is scientifically named Calophya schini Tuthill, 1959. When their wings are folded, adult individuals of this species measure 2 millimeters in length. Their bodies are generally colored orange, pale yellow, or green, and their wings are hyaline. Nymphs of Calophya schini create distinct dimples on leaves; when present in large numbers, they cause severe leaf malformations. This species is endemic to Central America, but has a widespread distribution that additionally includes the United States of America and New Zealand.
