About Calochortus weedii Alph.Wood

Calochortus weedii is a perennial herb that grows a slender, branching stem between 30 and 90 centimeters tall. It produces one basal leaf that can reach up to 40 centimeters in length, and this leaf withers before the plant begins blooming. The inflorescence holds 2 to 6 erect flowers, which range from widely bell-shaped to fully open. Each flower has three narrow sepals and three wider, sometimes shorter petals; every flower segment can grow up to 3 centimeters long. The petals are oval or wedge-shaped, and can be a range of colors, including cream, deep yellow, and reddish purple. They often have reddish brown borders and flecks, and the inner surface of the petals is covered in a coating of hairs. After flowering, the plant produces an angled capsule fruit that is 4 to 5 centimeters long.
