About Calochortus vestae (Purdy) Wallace
Calochortus vestae (Purdy) Wallace is a perennial herb that grows a branching stem 30 to 50 centimeters tall. Its single basal leaf measures 10 to 20 centimeters long and withers away by the time the plant begins flowering. The inflorescence forms a loose cluster holding 1 to 6 erect, bell-shaped flowers. Each flower has three petals that reach up to around 4 centimeters long, with three 2 to 3 centimeter long sepals positioned beneath the petals. The petals range in color from white to purplish, with a central pale yellow area that contains a darker reddish or brownish blotch. At the base of each petal there is a patch of red-streaked hairs.
