About Calochortus tolmiei Hook. & Arn.
Calochortus tolmiei is a perennial herb that grows a slender stem, which may be branched or unbranched, reaching a maximum height of 40 centimeters. It produces a basal leaf that can grow up to 40 centimeters long; this leaf does not wither when the plant flowers. The plant usually also has a smaller leaf located higher up on the stem. The inflorescence holds either a single bloom or a cluster of bell-shaped flowers. Each flower has petals that range from white to pale pink or purple, measuring up to 2.5 centimeters long, with three narrower sepals located beneath the petals. The inner surfaces of the petals are usually very hairy, and the petals may also be edged with a fringe of long hairs. After flowering, the plant produces a winged capsule that is 2 to 3 centimeters long, which holds several dark brown seeds.
