About Callosamia angulifera Walker, 1855

Callosamia angulifera, commonly known as the tuliptree silkmoth or giant silkmoth, is a moth species belonging to the family Saturniidae. This species is distributed in North America, ranging from eastern Massachusetts through central New York, southern Ontario, and southern Michigan to central Illinois, and extending south to the Florida panhandle and Mississippi. The wingspan of adult Callosamia angulifera measures 80–110 mm. In the northern part of its range, this moth has one generation per year, with active adults on wing from June to August. In the southern part of its range, it has two generations per year, with adults on wing from March to April and again in August. Larvae of Callosamia angulifera feed on Liriodendron tulipifera, while adult moths of this species do not feed.
