About Callophrys dumetorum (Boisduval, 1852)

Callophrys dumetorum, also known as the oregon green elfin, has a wingspan ranging from 25 to 32 millimeters. The dorsal side of its wings is light brown, while the ventral side is a vivid green, marked with a broken white postmedial line. Green coloration on the forewing is typically limited to the leading one-third of the wing. This butterfly species inhabits heathlands, road-cuts, coastal dunes, and open sites and clearings within Douglas-fir and ponderosa pine forests. Recorded larval host plants for this species are broad-leafed lotus and Acmispon nevadensis. Adult butterflies feed on nectar from these host plants, along with nectar from desert parsley, dogbane, yerba santa, California buckeye, and woolly sunflower.
