About Callistosporium purpureomarginatum Fatto & Bessette
Callistosporium purpureomarginatum is a small mushroom species that has a distinctive purplish red cap, which changes color as it ages or dries. Its cap measures 1 to 4 centimeters across, and starts out convex before flattening as the mushroom matures. The stem is 1.5 to 4 centimeters tall and 2 to 5 millimeters thick. The gills are purple brown, and change color to yellow or olive as they mature, sometimes retaining purple-colored fringes. This species produces a white spore print. Its spores are smooth and ellipsoid, and measure 4.7 by 2.5 to 4 micrometers. Its taste is either indistinct or bitter, and its smell is indistinct.
