About Calliopsis puellae (Cockerell, 1933)

Calliopsis puellae is a species of bee that belongs to the bee family Andrenidae. This species occurs in Central America and North America. Its type specimen was originally collected by Wilmatte Porter Cockerell and her great-niece Lelah Milene Porter, who lived from 1927 to 2001. The type specimen is currently held at Harvard University's Museum of Comparative Zoology. Theodore Dru Alison Cockerell, husband of Wilmatte Porter Cockerell, first described and named this species under the original name Spinoliella puellae. He wrote that the name S. puellae was chosen to commemorate the young girl who helped his wife collect the type specimens.
