About Calendulauda poecilosterna (Reichenow, 1879)
Calendulauda poecilosterna (Reichenow, 1879), commonly known as the pink-breasted lark or pink‑breasted bushlark, is a species of passerine bird in the family Alaudidae. The pink-breasted lark has an estimated global extent of occurrence of 560,000 km². Its range extends across a broad area from south-eastern South Sudan and southern Ethiopia, through Kenya, to southern Somalia, north-eastern Tanzania and eastern Uganda. Its natural habitats are dry savannah, open bush and wooded areas, particularly dry acacia and Commiphora scrub. This species is generally found alone or in pairs, foraging on the ground for insects and seeds. When disturbed, it flies to a safe, elevated perch on a tree branch or the top of a bush. These elevated locations are also the preferred perches it uses to sing its territorial song.
