Calathea lutea has the common names bijao, cigar calathea, Cuban cigar, Mexican cigar plant, Habana cigar, and pampano. It is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Marantaceae. This plant is native to southern Mexico, Central America, the southern Caribbean islands, and tropical South America. It is a rhizomatous perennial that can grow up to 3 m (10 ft) tall, and it typically grows in wet tropical areas. Its leaves are sold to be used as food wrappers in local cuisines, and the plant is also grown as an ornamental.
