About Caladenia infundibularis A.S.George
Caladenia infundibularis A.S.George is a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous herb that grows from an underground tuber. It produces a single hairy leaf, 80 to 120 millimeters (3 to 5 inches) long and approximately 12 millimeters (0.5 inches) wide. Between one and three greenish-yellow flowers, each 80โ120 millimeters (3โ5 inches) long and 60โ80 millimeters (2โ3 inches) wide, are borne on a stalk that grows 250โ450 millimeters (10โ20 inches) tall. The dorsal sepal of the flower is erect, measuring 35โ55 millimeters (1โ2 inches) long and 2โ3 millimeters (0.08โ0.1 inches) wide. The lateral sepals are 35โ65 millimeters (1โ3 inches) long and 4โ6 millimeters (0.16โ0.24 inches) wide, with thin, yellowish-brown, club-like glandular tips 6โ15 millimeters (0.2โ0.6 inches) in length. The petals are 27โ38 millimeters (1.1โ1.5 inches) long and 3โ8 millimeters (0.1โ0.3 inches) wide, spreading widely or curving slightly downwards. The labellum is greenish-yellow with a red tip, 20โ24 millimeters (0.8โ0.9 inches) long and 11โ16 millimeters (0.4โ0.6 inches) wide, with a downward-pointing tip. The tip of the labellum is funnel-shaped, with many spreading teeth up to 5 millimeters (0.2 inches) long along its sides, and four or six rows of yellowish calli along its midline. Flowering of this species takes place in October and November. Commonly called the funnel-web spider orchid, Caladenia infundibularis grows in coastal heath, forest, and woodland. It is found between Dunsborough and Northcliffe in Western Australia's Jarrah Forest, Swan Coastal Plain, and Warren biogeographic regions.
