About Caladenia discoidea Lindl.
Caladenia discoidea Lindl. produces a single leaf that is 8 to 18 millimeters (0.3 to 0.7 inches) long, approximately 8 millimeters (0.3 inches) wide, and hairy on both surfaces. Its flower stem measures 90 to 450 millimeters (4 to 20 inches) long and bears between 1 and 4 flowers. Each flower is 20 to 30 millimeters (0.8 to 1 inch) long and wide, oriented horizontally, and colored yellow and green with red stripes. The flowers have very short petals and sepals, plus a rounded, fringed labellum that bears dark calli. Flowering occurs between August and early October. This species, commonly known as the dancing spider orchid, is widespread across drier areas of south-western Western Australia, ranging between Kalbarri and Israelite Bay. It grows in woodland, and sometimes occurs on the edges of salt lakes. It is found in the Avon Wheatbelt, Esperance Plains, Geraldton Sandplains, Jarrah Forest, Mallee and Swan Coastal Plain biogeographic regions of Western Australia.
