About Caladenia brownii Hopper
Caladenia brownii Hopper is a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous herb. It has an underground tuber and a single erect, hairy leaf, 10โ25 cm (4โ10 in) long and 5โ10 mm (0.2โ0.4 in) wide. Up to three flowers, colored a mix of red, green, white and yellow, grow on a stem 20โ60 cm (8โ20 in) high. Individual flowers measure 7โ10 cm (3โ4 in) long and 4โ5 cm (1.6โ2.0 in) wide. The lateral sepals and petals spread widely, and bear narrow, red scent-producing glands at their ends. The labellum is greenish-yellow with a red tip; its sides have long, narrow teeth or calli, and there are four or more rows of red calli along the centre of the labellum. Flowering occurs between October and early December, after which a non-fleshy, dehiscent capsule forms that contains a large number of seeds. Commonly known as karri spider orchid, this plant grows in forest, woodland and coastal heath in high rainfall areas between Dunsborough and Albany, in the Jarrah Forest, Swan Coastal Plain, and Warren biogeographic regions. It is the only species in the genus Caladenia that grows in karri forest.
