About Cacicus melanicterus (Bonaparte, 1825)

This species, commonly called the Mexican cacique or yellow-winged cacique, is a cacique species in the Icteridae family. It is found exclusively on the west coast of Mexico and the northernmost edge of Guatemala. It is the only species in its genus, meaning it is monotypic there. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and heavily degraded former forest. The genus Cassiculus, previously used for this species, was introduced by English ornithologist William Swainson in 1827.
