About Buxus sinica (Rehder & E.H.Wilson) M.Cheng
Buxus sinica, commonly known as Chinese box or small-leaved box, is a flowering plant species belonging to the family Buxaceae. It is native to central and southern China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. In its wild state, it grows as a shrub or small tree, occurring in a wide range of habitats at elevations typically between 600 and 2,600 m (2,000 to 8,500 ft) above sea level. A number of cultivars have been developed from this species, all of which originate from Buxus sinica var. insularis (synonym Buxus koreana). These cultivars include 'Winter Gem', 'Green Gem', 'Justin Brouwers', 'Wintergreen', 'Chegu', 'Tall Boy', 'Tide Hill', 'Winter Beauty', 'Green Mountain', 'Pincushion', 'Filigree', 'Green Velvet', and 'Sunny‑side'. Buxus sinica is used for hedging, and it is also grown for bonsai.
