Bursera penicillata (Sessé & Moc.) Engl. is a Mexican tree species belonging to the frankincense family, within the soapwood order. It is widely distributed across large areas of Mexico, ranging from Sonora and Chihuahua in the north to Oaxaca and Veracruz in the south. This species grows as a small tree, and produces pinnately compound leaves that have 7 to 9 leaflets each.
