About Bursera bipinnata (Moc. & Sessé ex DC.) Engl.

Bursera bipinnata, scientific name Bursera bipinnata (Moc. & Sessé ex DC.) Engl., is a Mesoamerican tree species that grows widely across Mexico and Central America, ranging from Chihuahua to Honduras. It is one of two species commonly called copal. Copal wood is the most common material used by woodcarvers in Oaxaca, Mexico. Local woodcarvers call Bursera glabrifolia "macho" (male copal), which they prefer less than Bursera bipinnata, which they call "Hembra" (female copal).
